hello all Smile

hi ali,

yes, very nice presentation bat subdivide = minimal surface!?

1. subdivide Catmull-Clark__________________________________________2. surface evolver

feasible alternative is also: refine Polygons + Relax Polygons + refine Polygons + Relax Polygon + decimate (reduction) Polygons + Relax Polygon....

but the surface evolver or mathematica are the real interesting Programs for me Wink

ciao

Thanks Stefan & Torolf

Hi Torolf

You are right. Subdividing does not produce minimal surface. But I use HyperNurbs Tool (subdividng tool on C4D) on simple polygons with 4 or 5 points. These points are not on one plane (edges are twisted), so in this way, HyperNurbs tool makes this polygons suitable for minimal surfaces. I do not use subdividing on high polygon surfaces. It is somehow simulating Surface Evolver capabilities. This way is not as good as evolver tools. As you can see, it cannot produce perfect circle or circular edges. It is just a practice to use C4D tools for math modeling. As you said Evolver and Mathematica are the best software to modeling these kind of objects.

sorry for my bad English!

Longhurst surface

I know that it is not a mathematically perfect model. But this method gives me the chance to view complicated models in my favorite 3D program and understanding their complex geometeries.

hi ali,

very well seen by you, and also reacted well to the quality I can not

Say, because the model is not good to see.

Here's my model's disappearance views! What is always important to me

the quality of the digital model "surface minimal" does not suffer. Because there are so bad 3D programs!

here is a good example to see what I mean Wink

Hi Torolf

thanks for your attention to my posts.

As I said: the surface geometry of my models are not mathematically correct and perfect.

It's almost impossible to achieve such models in C4D.

The inner ring of my semi-longhurst(!) model was a circle, I changed it and rotate the object to make it as similar to your object.

You can see wrong surface curvature on my model. I have tried to correct these problems with C4D tools, but no success.

The 3D_Moi and surface evolver are good softwares for modeling minimal surfaces.

Thanks Torolf & Oliver

My models are not new.

It's just practice with C4D modeling tools.

Two surfaces with knot(7-4) bound.

The second surface intersects itself.

First surface has one face (like Mobius strip).
Second surface has two faces and intersects itself.

Hello,
do you generate the knots with Jürgen Meiers coffee plugins?
very interesting. Very Happy
